Arsenal star Lukas Podolski has been named as one of the worst Serie A signings of the January transfer window, according to reports from the Mirror.
In a poll conducted by Italy sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Podolski came at a close second with 36%, behind AC Milan ace Alessio Cerci – who got 46% – as this January’s biggest transfer flop.
The two players were way ahead of third place Seydou Doumbia, with the Roma striker purchased from CSKA Moscow only garnering 9% of the votes.
After struggling to break into the Gunners first team following a successful World Cup campaign with Germany, the former Bayern Munich attacker thought he will have better luck if he made the switch to the Italian Serie A.
However, the 29-year-old has played eight games for the Nerazzurri, but has yet to find the net for Roberto Mancini’s side.
And the manager was blunt about his assessment of Podolski, after he commented on his performance in their loss to Fiorentina on Sunday.
“Podolski? Obviously he is someone who must give more, and we are sure that he can give us more,” Mancini said.
“Because at the moment, it’s not enough.”
