Arsenal have been boosted in their chase for Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli after his expected switch to AC Milan has come to a standstill, talkSPORT reports.
Romagnoli has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan in recent weeks, with the Serie A giants hoping to bring the Italian defender to the San Siro following a £20million bid.
However, Roma have rejected the offer and are demanding at least £25milion for the 20-year-old, while Romagnoli himself has not agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri.
This has therefore opened the door for the Gunners to make a move, with manager Arsene Wenger previously monitoring the Italy Under-21 international.
Arsenal have only made one major signing in Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer, and although they have been reportedly interested in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, an additional centre-back would be a welcome addition given Laurent Koscielny’s reoccurring injury problems.
Last season, Romagnoli played for Sampdoria on loan, making 31 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.
