Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is believed to be stepping up his chase to sign Lyon star Maxime Gonalons at the end of the season, according to reports from the Metro.
The 25-year-old was a summer target for the Gunners after being scouted by the club for the past few years, and could be in line to finally make a switch to the Premier League.
Having being continuously tracked by Wenger, Gonalons has been tipped to leave Ligue-1 on more than one occasion, and may now be allowed to when the transfer window reopens this summer.
The French manager is still in the market for a midfield anchorman, a position he admitted he wanted to fill.
It seems that after signing Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal to reinforce his defence, Wenger’s only missing piece in the puzzle is a player that can add stability in front of his back four.
Gonalons is said to be worth about £14.8million and has been a season regular for Lyon, making 24 starts from a possible 25 games.
