Thomas Vermaelen is believed to have agreed a move to Manchester United after he accepted a £100,000-a-week deal, Metro reports.
Vermalen had very limited first-team action under Arsene Wenger in the previous season after losing out to centre-backs Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
The Belgium international could turn to the Red Devils lack of experience at the back after the departure of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in order to gift himself a first team role as well as a career revival.
Newly appointed manager Louis van Gaal is also said to highly rate the likes of Vermaelen’s Premier League experience after joining the Gunners back in 2009 from Ajax.
With only one year left on his current deal at the Emirates, the 28-year-old is very likely to turn down any contract extension with the club as they look to make a profit on his sale before he eventually leaves on a free transfer.
The defender and the club will now need to reach an understanding over the potential move and if Van Gaal can meet his £10million price tag, a switch should be in the books.
