Arsenal are considering a shock £20million bid for Watford star Troy Deeney in the January transfer window, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for a striker since the summer, with Olivier Giroud the only out-and-out centre forward in the roster.
And Deeney has become the latest name to join Arsenal’s transfer wishlist, with manager Arsene Wenger a big fan of the Englishman.
However, the Hornets are extremely reluctant to let their club captain leave, especially with Deeney in fine form scoring six goals in his last 11 games.
But with the Gunners at the top of the table with a real shot at challenging for the title this term, Wenger knows that signing a striker this month could be the difference between first or second come May.
But before a move for Deeney, Arsenal are close to completing their first January signing in Basel’s Mohamed Elneny, who is flying in to London to seal a £7million deal.
