Arsenal’s German duo Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil revealed that they have already tried to convince Sami Khedira to reject Manchester United as well as Chelsea so that he can complete a switch to the Emirates, Mirror reports.
The 27-year-old Real Madrid anchorman is attracting huge interest and will be able to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choosing during the January window meaning he could then complete a switch when his current deal expires in the summer.
Mertesacker admitted that he is trying to persuade his fellow World Cup winning teammate to follow him to the club in hopes of ending Arsene Wenger’s search for his ideal defensive midfielder.
He said: “I’m up for more quality Germans to [join] the club,”
“Ozil and I spoke with Khedira a few times to join Arsenal. His contract is up next summer.”
The Gunners are also linked with William Carvalho and Lars Bender as alternative to Khedira should they failed to secure a deal to sign him at the end of the season.
