Arsenal have released a statement saying that they expect Robin van Persie to fulfil his club commitments during the 2012-13 season, despite choosing not to extend his contract with the team.
The Netherlands international dropped a bombshell on the north London club’s fans yesterday by admitting that he will leave the Emirates Stadium next summer and will not sign a new deal.
Despite this, the Gunners expect the 2011-12 PFA Player of the Year to be committed next term.
“We have to respect Robin’s decision not to renew his contract,” a statement on the side’s official website reads.
“Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the club.
“We are planning with ambition and confidence for next season with Arsenal’s best interests in mind,” it concludes.
