Arsenal are leading Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, according to reports from the Metro.
The 23-year-old has now emerged as the next transfer target for manager Arsene Wenger following the arrival of goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea.
United were earlier interested in the services of the Portugal international, but looks to have now turned their attentions to Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Gunners are now in pole position to complete a move for Carvalho as they prepare to table a bid around the £19.8million region.
Wenger has been a huge fan of the central midfielder for quite some time and may now step up his chase for the player.
The Sporting star has been a constant feature for his side this past term, making a total of 42 appearances in all competitions.
Signing him will be a huge boost for the club due to the fact that they have constantly been in search of a player capable of playing right in front of the defensive line.
