Arsenal have been handed a surprise transfer boost with the news that Santi Cazorla could return before the end of the season.
The influential Spaniard has been out of action since October and the Gunners have struggled vastly in his absence, failing out of the Premier League title race and now facing a huge battle for a top-four spot.
On top of that, the Gunners face a likely exit from the Champions League Round of 16 once again after a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich- which leaves Arsenal relying on the FA Cup as their only source of silverware this season, as they prepare to host Lincoln City next weekend.
Whilst those in the side have struggled for form, fans have prayed for Cazorla’s return but news broke last month that indicated he may not be seen until next season. However, Arsene Wenger has now suggested there’s a chance of him featuring before the end of the campaign in May.
“With Cazorla, I am not specialised enough to say when he will return because it is a special problem. I have not seen him in training, not even in fitness work.”
“It is possible he could play this season. It is about how he heals and once that is done he can practice normally. We are now at the beginning of March so it is very difficult to predict.”
“You need six weeks after such a long interruption to compete for a place in the team. It is very frustrating for us. At the start of the season he was the star of the team. It’s a big loss and I am very sad for him. He suffers a lot not being on the football pitch.”
Should Cazorla return around May, he could look forward to fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester United and Stoke- as well as potentially the FA Cup final at Wembley.
