Arsenal looks to have been dealt a blow after it was revealed that January target Andre-Pierre Gignac is set to sign a new contract with Marseille, quashing hopes of a possible switch, Metro reports.
It was said that the 28-year-old striker was already negotiating a deal to bring him to the Emirates during the January window as he is currently available for a cut-price deal because he has less than a year left on his contract.
Marseille president Vincent Labrune is trying to halt any deals with Arsene Wenger as he attempts to keep the French attacker in the Ligue 1 for another season with a possible one year extension.
The Gunners are left with only Danny Welbeck to lead the lines after Olivier Giroud is currently sidelined until next year with a foot injury.
Gignac is seen as a very good candidate to add some extra fire-power to Wenger’s attack as he is currently highest goalscorer in the league with 10 goals in 10 matches.
