Arsenal join the race for Valencia star

Vicente Guaita (Valencia)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is stepping up his chase for a new goalkeeper by bidding for Valencia stopper Vicente Guaita, according to the Metro.

The Spaniard would welcome a move to the Premier League but the Gunners are still way off an acceptable offer according to the La Liga club as their initial £4million bid was immediately turned away.

Valencia are in all kind of financial trouble and so cannot rule out the sale of any first team players with Roberto Soldado and Aly Cissokho having already moved to England this summer.

Wenger wants a more stable number one and sees Guaita as the better value for money target over Newcastle’s Tim Krul, for whom a bid has also been made.

The Spanish side want around £8million for their number one but Wenger is set to make his second bid of around £7million today in order to tempt Valencia into serious negotiations.
