Arsenal legend believes season is still a success

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes that this season can still be seen as a success under Arsene Wenger, as reported by the Evening Standard.

The Gunners face Wigan at Wembley today in their FA Cup semi-final and speculation has mounted that Wenger could be out of a job if the result doesn’t go their way.

Arsenal are heavy favourites for the FA Cup so the pressure is on them, with Everton closing the gap on them in the league too.

Wright feels that a top four spot and a trophy will be a positive season for the Gunners and that fans’ expectations is not helping the team.

“I still believe that if they finish fourth and they can win the FA Cup – which is not a foregone conclusion – they’re under a lot of pressure to win that just to save face, so that’s pressure in itself,” Wright said.

“I think they’ve done well up to this point, so if they can finish fourth and win the FA Cup, you have to say that’s a successful season because previously they’ve only finished fourth.”
