Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit has predicted that Premier League leaders Chelsea will drop points when they face former manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Blues maintained the seven-point advantage over second-placed Tottenham Hotspur when they responded to Spurs’ 4-0 win against Watford at White Hart Lane by beating Bournemouth 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium last Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men once again have the chance to cut that gap to four points when they host the Cherries in north London on Saturday, before Antonio Conte’s side face the Red Devils the following day.

Merson believes that Mourinho will be looking to make it difficult for the visitors after they sacked him in 2015, as well as getting revenge for the 4-0 defeat his side suffered at Stamford Bridge in October.

Predicting the match will end in a 1-1 draw, the 49-year-old told Sky Sports: “I can see Chelsea dropping points considering what happened to Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.

“Some fans had a bit of a go and he will make it difficult for his old club.”

If the former Arsenal star is right, it will mean that the title race – which looked to be over just a few weeks ago – will be alive again if Spurs can beat Bournemouth on Saturday.

That would leave the gap between the two at five points, with just six fixtures of the campaign remaining.
