Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur will win the north London derby against his former club at White Hart Lane on Sunday in what is one of the biggest clashes between the two teams in recent years.

Spurs need to take all three points again if they are to keep their Premier League title chances alive and maintain the pressure on leaders Chelsea, who they currently lie four points behind going into the weekend’s fixtures.

Christian Eriksen’s late goal gave them a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night – their eight successive top flight victory.

The game is significant for Arsene Wenger’s side too though, as the sixth-placed Gunners look to stay in the race to secure Champions League football next season by securing a top four finish.

They also took won by the same scoreline as their arch-rivals on Wednesday as they saw off Premier League holders Leicester City with Robert Huth’s own goal two minutes from time proving to be the difference between the two teams.

Despite his allegiance to the red side of north London, Merson believes that Mauricio Pochettino will be the victorious manager on Sunday afternoon.

The 49-year-old told Sky Sports: “Credit to Arsenal for that performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Man City. I didn't see it coming.

“But I cannot bring myself to back them to beat Tottenham on Sunday. I weigh it up and think, where do Arsenal win this game?

“Spurs maybe felt they just had to turn up at Palace and I think Big Sam's team shocked them a little bit.

“In the end, they deserved to win and it was a massive three points. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm going 3-1 to Spurs this weekend. There's a long way to go in this title race.”

The fixture will also take on added significance by the fact that Tottenham can finish above Arsenal for the first time since Wenger took charge of the Gunners in 1996 with a win.
