Arsenal will go toe-to-toe with Premier League rivals Manchester United for Barcelona’s Dani Alves in the summer, that is according to reports in the Daily Star.
According to the Brazlian full-back’s agent, Alves has yet to be offered a new deal by the Catalan giants and, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season, Alves will be a free agent this summer – the 31-year-old can sign a pre-contract deal with either Arsenal or Man United now.
Despite signing Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers in the summer, as well as the emergence of Hector Bellerin, Arsene Wenger is interested in bringing Alves to the Emirates. However, Louis van Gaal may well be able to offer the former Sevilla man greater first-team opportunities with Antonio Valencia, primarily a winger, filling in at full-back at times during the current campaign.
Alves has made 21 appearances in all competition for Luis Enrique’s side this season, and has bagged four assists in the process.
