Ibrahim, a Somalia-born Norwegian Under-21 international, has been described as City’s ‘new Patrick Vieira’ in waiting. The club’s current football development executive watched him play for Stromsgodset earlier this month.
But, with the youngster’s contract due to expire in the summer of 2014, talks over a new deal have not progressed as well as City would have liked and there is a feeling that his agent may have advised him to look elsewhere.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain also watched the player over the winter and hoped that Vieira’s trip to Norway would have assured him that there will be opportunities for him at the Etihad next season.
Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley has been reported to have taken an interest and with West Brom, Liverpool, Norwich, Spurs and West Ham all recently linked to the 21-year-old, there will be no shortage of takers for the talent in the summer.
City could yet win him over if things go well in pre-season, but the player grew up an Arsenal fan and may be tempted by a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
