Arsenal have approached Borussia Dortmund in regards to signing Ilkay Gundogan ahead of Manchester United this summer, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Gundogan has confirmed that he will not be playing at the Westfalenstadion next season, with the likes of United, Bayern Munich, and Man City all linked with the Germany international.
However, reports have suggested that the Gunners and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have made contact with the BVB over a potential move.
This is set to alert the Red Devils, who will either make an approach of their own or look elsewhere for an alternative midfielder.
Gundogan is seen by both Arsenal and United as the perfect deep-lying player for their respective sides, with the 24-year-old known for his passing ability and composure.
His departure could also affect Man United’s chase for Dortmund team-mate Mats Hummels, with the Bundesliga club traditionally only allowing one marquee player to leave each season.
