Arsene Wenger has revealed that even if injured striker Olivier Giroud returns to full fitness, he will not be promised a starting spot unless he proves himself worthy, Daily Star reports.
The 28-year-old French star has not featured for most of the season after picking up a knock on his ankle and has now been replaced by former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck.
Although he is close to returning to full fitness, Wenger believes that nobody is guaranteed a starting spot unless they can prove themselves as he will only select players who are on form.
“There are no indisputable players at a big club,” Wenger told BEin sports. “There are only players that are in form who play.
“Giroud is a player who is considered as a potential starting XI player, but he is like Welbeck, he is like Sanchez. They need to be in form.”
It is still unsure whether Giroud will feature in the upcoming clash with United, but it was earlier revealed that he has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
