Arsenal medical team can’t see star midfielder recovering for Man City clash

Arsenal’s medical team believe that star winger Alexis Sanchez will not recover in time for the club’s clash against Manchester City next week, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

Sanchez picked up a hamstring problem in the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Norwich City last month, and initial scans suggested that the injury was not as bad as previously thought.

And despite resuming training with the squad on Monday, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed that his medical team do not expect him to feature against the Citizens.

“Medically, we think – my people think, he will not be ready but Alexis being Alexis, you never know,” he said.

“It is a big game and we want to win at home and beat City at home. There are now eight days to prepare and it will be a interesting one but we can at least recover and prepare then.”

The Chile international was on fine form prior to his injury, scoring two goals against Dynamo Zagreb which kept the Gunners in the running to qualify for the Champions League knock-out stages.

However, the 26-year-old appeared fatigued and he eventually tired himself out, adding to Wenger’s growing injury list.

Sanchez was by far the North London club’s best player last season, making 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and providing 12 assists.
