Arsenal are preparing to replace newly-injured star Francis Coquelin this January and have come up with a shortlist of potential candidates, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger took a big gamble during the summer by not signing a defensive midfielder as cover for Coquelin, and now the Frenchman is set to miss at least three months with a knee problem he picked up during their 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Ahead of their Champions League game against Dinamo Zagreb, Wenger thus revealed that Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini will deputise in Coquelin’s absence.
And it looks like Wenger has come up with a short-list of potential replacements, with William Carvalho, Lars Bender, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Lucas Biglia, Vincent Koziello, and Nampalys Mendy all being eyed by the Arsenal gaffer.
Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ramsey are both in contention to start this week against Dynamo Zagreb in Tuesday’s Champions League clash after recovering from injuries.
