Arsenal move ahead of Man City in race for Championship striker

Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign Manchester City target Ademola Lookman from Charlton, Daily Star reports.

The 18-year-old is also being monitored by Chelsea as well as Liverpool and is said to be valued by the Championship side at around the £2million region.

However, Charlton interim boss Karel Fraeye has revealed that Lookman is a vital member of the squad and will not be looking to let him leave this month.

“Ademola has just started first-team football. He’s started very well but he’s got so many steps to take,” he said.

“I’m sure he won’t be sold in January and will be here in the long-term.

“He’s a smart boy and I think Charlton is a good club for him. If he is looking for a club to develop at, he’s at the best club for him and he knows that.”

He has already featured in nine league matches for his side this term, so far being able to register three goals in the process.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is known for his ability to spot young talent and has been linked with a move for a top quality striker ever since the summer.

He has been keen to add a world class forward into his squad over the past few seasons, with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani both linked.
