Arsenal move ahead of Man United in race for midfield wonderkid

Arsenal are hoping to beat Manchester United to the signing of Exeter wonderkid Ethan Ampadu during the upcoming transfer window, Daily Star reports.

The 16-year-old is also being tracked by Liverpool as well as Chelsea after already representing both the Wales and England squad at youth level.

Despite interest from a host of Premier League giants, the Gunners are said to be favourites to his signature given that their youth coach, Kwame Ampadu, is his father.

Ampadu Snr managed to make two appearances for the club during his career before moving on to play for West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City, Leyton Orient, as well as Exeter.

However, the midfielder is expected to continue his development with his current side despite the fact that potential offers are likely to be negotiated during the summer.

Arsenal are currently battling to maintain their place in the top four as they sit third on the league table, four points ahead of Manchester City in fourth.
