Arsenal’s £16million summer signing Calum Chambers is tipped by England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate to start his nations Euro 20116 qualifier against San Marino, Daily Star reports.
Everton’s John Stones had to pull out of the upcoming fixture after picking up an injury, meaning the former Southampton man was given the late call up to replace him.
Southgate believed that given his improved role under Arsene Wenger, to start for the Three Lions at Wembley will be a big boost in the confidence of the 19-year-old.
He said: “It looks like Calum will play – that’s the right thing for him.
“No-one can say that playing at Wembley is not a brilliant experience – especially possibly getting a start depending on what Roy decides.”
The right back role has always proved to be a problem for Roy Hodgson given the injuries to Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker, meaning either Chambers or Nathaniel Clyne will be given the duties in that position.
