Arsenal are preparing a summer move to sign Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes, according to reports from the Metro.
Howedes was previously linked with a move to the Premier League at the beginning of the season, with Premier League rivals Manchester United also keen on his services.
The centre-back only has 18 months left on his contract and there have been no talks yet of an extension, which could force Schalke to sell him soon or risk losing him for free later.
A big factor that could seal a deal for Arsenal is Howedes’ price tag, as the Germany international has a buy-out clause of only £9million.
His arrival would be a decent addition given the Gunners’ constant injury problems, with star centre-back Laurent Koscielny regularly picking up knocks over the course of a campaign.
Howedes, 27, has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
