Arsenal are ready to make a £50million bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani after Olivier Giroud’s long injury layoff, Express reports.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with Cavani all summer but with Giroud expected to miss the rest of the year with a broken ankle, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking to break the club’s transfer record to bring over the goal-scoring Uruguayan.
During Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Everton, Giroud came off the bench to net the equalizer in the dying minutes but was seen in pain after a lash from Toffees defender Sylvain Distin.
Several players, such as Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, and Yaya Sanogo, are all capable of playing the lone man in Arsenal’s 4-2-3-1 system, but without an out-and-out striker Wenger is concerned challenging for the Premier League could be a step too far.
And sources from France are indicating that instead of a stop-gap solution, the Gunners will splash the cash to bring Man United target Edinson Cavani to the Emirates.
The 27-year-old hitman is unhappy playing second-fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG, often utilized out of position by manager Laurent Blanc and could seek the perfect opportunity to lead the line at Arsenal.
