Arsenal are preparing a £20million offer to sign Mattia Destro from Roma and may have to go head-to-head with Premier League leaders Chelsea for his signature, Express reports.
The 23-year-old striker is likely to be brought into the squad as a replacement for Lukas Podolski who is tipped to leave the club in January as he his currently frustrated at his very limited role.
His exit seems very likely after the Gunners are believed to have received a number of offers from a host of Bundesliga sides hoping to acquire the services of the World Cup winner.
Despite already having Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud close to returning to full fitness, Arsene Wenger is keen to sign the Italian who is also looking for more playing time after being overlooked by Roma boss Rudi Garcia.
Destro netted 29 goals in 49 appearances for his side, but is currently back-up to club legend Francesco Totti and is willing to make a switch if it means he can be in contention for a spot in the Italian squad ahead of Euro 2016.
