Arsenal are considering a move to sign long-term target William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon in order to solve their ongoing injury crisis, Express reports.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Emirates over the past few seasons, but a formal move has yet to be agreed.
However, manager Arsene Wenger is said to have drawn out a shortlist of midfielders that he is targeting as he looks to reinforce the squad.
The Gunners are currently without defensive midfielders Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, and Mikel Arteta.
Cazorla is expected to be sidelined for up to four months, something that will be seen as a huge blow for Wenger heading into the New Year.
Carvalho currently has a £35million release clause tied into his contract, but Wenger may need to trigger it in order to have adequate cover for the second half of the campaign.
