Arsenal are said to have rejected the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani on deadline day despite ongoing negotiations, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 28-year-old emerged as a top striking candidate for the club after the Gunners failed in their efforts to sign Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
Manager Arsene Wenger has been in the market for a world class forward ever since the previous campaign, but has once again come up short of his expectations.
He is now being criticised by the club fans after the signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea was his only major transfer dealing this summer.
It was believed that PSG were open to the sale of the Uruguay international, but Wenger was unwilling to pay the £50million price demands set forth by the Ligue 1 champions as there would have been no sell-on value.
Cavani started the current campaign on good form, scoring three goals from a total of five appearances so far.
