Arsenal have seen their £31million offer for Manchester United target Karim Benzema rejected by Real Madrid, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 27-year-old has been a long-term target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, but he is yet to prove successful in his chase for the striker.
United joined the race for his services ahead of the summer window as they were prepared to reinforce their frontline following the departure of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.
Real were said to be open to his exit as new manager Rafa Benitez was tipped to move star man Cristiano Ronaldo into a more central role.
However, beIN Sports correspondent Tancredi Palmeri recently revealed that the La Liga giants rejected the offer and has ended negotiations over Benzema’s departure.
His tweet read: “It’s all true the Arsenal bid for Benzema: 45m€. Real Madrid was initially open to talk, but now they have stopped everything.”
The France international featured 46 times in all competitions for his side last season, scoring a total of 22 goals while providing a further 15 assists.
