Arsenal are reportedly close to signing Real Madrid star Karim Benzema with the deal expected to be completed sometime this week, according to the Daily Star.
Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer, with Manchester United also previously keen on the France international.
But Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, who writes for Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport and popular magazine FourFourTwo, claims that Benzema will make a move to Arsenal for an estimated fee of £45million and will take the number 9 shirt.
The Gunners have been rather quiet in the transfer market, only completing a £10million deal for now former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
This therefore leaves funds available to launch a bid for Benzema, with the 27-year-old possibly set to lose his position after Real manager Rafa Benitez claimed that he wants to use Cristiano Ronaldo in a more central role.
After losing 2-0 to West Ham United last week, the Gunners got back on track with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
