Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer Robin van Persie a new bumper £130,000 per week contract, with a £5 million signing on fee, according to The Daily Mail.
The Netherlands international finished as the Premier League’s top goalscorer with 30 strikes, won the PFA Player of the Year award and has been a major reason in the Gunners finishing third after a slow start.
However, the Emirates Stadium club’s captain is out of contract next summer, and Arsene Wenger is worried that he could lose his talisman for free in a year’s time.
To avoid a similar situation that saw Samir Nasri leave the side this time last year, Arsenal are ready to break their wage structure and pay the talented forward £130,000 per week, with a £5 million personal signing on bonus.
Van Persie has remained coy on the prospect of extending his stay in north London, as other clubs are interested in signing him this summer.
Meanwhile, Mirror Football have reported that Van Persie is looking increasingly likely to join the Manchester City revolution, with the new Premier League champions ready to offer £25 million for the forward.
It is believed that Roberto Mancini’s men are ready to triple Van Persie’s wages to £250,000 per week in a bid to tempt him to leave Arsenal.
