Arsenal set to TRIGGER £34m release clause to sign Man United target

Arsenal are believed to be ready to trigger the £34million release clause for Athletic Bilbao starlet Aymeric Laporte hoping to seal the move ahead of the January window, Express reports.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young defenders on the planet after some impressive performances for the La Liga in their previous campaign.

He was linked with the Gunners throughout the summer, but Laporte decided to sign a new contract which now expires in 2018 with the included release clause of £34million.

The French starlet was also linked with Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, but Arsene Wenger is looking to beat his European rivals to his signature given the club’s current defensive crisis.

With Thomas Vermaelen making a switch to Spain and Mathieu Debuchy hit with a long term injury, Wenger is running out of defender to serve as back-up to his current pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
