Arsenal star Per Mertesacker was involved in an accident after his car slipped on the wet road during his drive on the M1 on Monday, according to reports from the Mirror.
The 30-year-old was unhurt by the incident and is said to have hit the central reservation when he lost control of his vehicle.
A club source revealed that the Germany international was fine following the event and will be back in training despite feeling a little shaken.
“Per had an accident after he left training this morning [MON] when he went onto the M1 returning home,” the source said.
“The car aquaplaned into the crash area on the central reservation.
“He was shaken up but not injured. No other vehicles were involved and there was no one else in his car.
“It’s not a big deal. Per is fine and ready to return to training.”
Mertesacker has already missed his team’s last three league matches with an illness and is also expected to be out of the upcoming Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.
However, the centre-back could mark his return to action when the Gunners travel to Stamford Bridge to face a struggling Chelsea side.
Despite being crown Premier League champions last season, the Blues suffered a number of terrible results, losing three out of their last five fixtures and are currently sitting in 17th place.
