Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is being urged by Germany legend Lothar Matthaus to complete a move to Barcelona, Yahoo Sports reports.
The 27-year-old is still undergoing contract talks with his current side and was recently linked with a switch to the La Liga champions.
However, despite Barca coming out to play down speculation that they were keen on the former Real Madrid midfielder, Matthaus admitted that the club will benefit from a player of his calibre.
“It would surely be a gain for him [Ozil], since Barcelona simply is the cream of the crop, especially when it comes to attacking strategies,” he said.
“They seem to look for someone, who can give inspiration there and strengthen the team more from the depth of midfield.
“Of course they are already very aware of that in Barcelona, but I’m pretty sure Arsenal won’t let him go.”
He has been a key performer for manager Arsene Wenger and is closing in on the Premier League title as his side only trail leaders Leicester City by two points with 12 games remaining.
The Gunners are hoping to reach an agreement with the Germany international very soon as they look to retain his services for even longer.
He has already featured 31 times in all competitions for his side this term, so far managing to score six goals while providing another 17 assists.
