The 19-year old who plays for Deportivo Saprissa, one of the country’s leading clubs, could be on the verge of a move to the Emirates.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been impressed by the teenager’s displays for Costa Rica in the Copa America.
Campbell started all three games finding the target once against Bolivia and it’s being reported that he’s been on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time.
His performances in the tournament caught the eye of several clubs in Europe with Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan all watching the striker closely, however Arsenal have decided to steal a march on their European rivals by making a move for Campbell and are said to be close to wrapping up the deal.
It would certainly be a signing for the future, as there would be problems regarding Campbell’s eligibility to play in England, given he wouldn’t qualify for a work permit as he only has five international caps and hasn’t played in the required 75% of matches for Costa Rica over the last few years.
Should a deal be agreed Arsenal could apply for special dispensation for him to play in the Premier League, or they may follow the same route they did with Carlos Vela in sending him out on loan until such time he becomes eligible for the relevant visas.
