Corinthians chief Edu Gaspar has confirmed that he held talks with Arsenal in regards to the transfer of Alexandre Pato, according to reports from the Mirror.
Pato has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and even West Ham United all reportedly interested in the Brazilian striker.
However, despite earlier sources claiming that they have agreed to sell him to Liverpool, ex-Gunners midfielder Edu admits he talked to Wenger about Pato when he visited his former manager in London.
“I wasn’t there to tout him around but if people ask about him, I’m going to answer,” Edu said.
“I talked and they asked questions – not just about him, but about a few of our players. They know them well.
“I had lunch with Arsene Wenger and he asked about [Pato] and about others.”
The 26-year-old is set to become available when the Brazilian season finishes this January, with Corinthians keen on offloading the former AC Milan man.
With the high amount of injuries, Wenger would welcome the addition of another pacey striker to give lone front man Olivier Giroud some much needed competition.
Pato has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 15 goals (according to whoscored).
