Arsenal are closing in on the confirmation of Basel star Mohamed Elneny after he is said to be ready to undergo a medical before signing a contract, Daily Star reports.
The 23-year-old is being brought in as backup to give manager Arsene Wenger some options in regards to his injury struck squad.
With midfield trio Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, and Francis Coquelin all unavailable through injury, the Egypt international is expected to be used immediately.
The three players are said to be out until at least February, with Elneny set to complete his move from the Swiss outfits during the January window.
Apart from the mentioned players, Mathieu Flamini is also suffering from an ankle knock while Mikel Arteta is still struggling to find fitness.
Elneny is believed to cost the Gunners around the £4.7million region and will be undergoing his club medical today before signing a four-year deal on Wednesday.
Despite their huge injury crisis, Wenger recently saw his side overcome Bournemouth 2-0 in the Premier League to take his side top of the table.
