Arsenal’s January target Cheick Tiote is tipped to miss the rest of the season for Newcastle United, after picking up an injury at the African Cup of Nations, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old was on the verge of a move to the Emirates during the previous window, but Arsene Wenger put a halt to his switch.
Tiote was offered to the Gunners for a fee of £12million, but they were hoping to sign him for less, eventually ending the potential transfer.
The Ivory Coast international is now likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery while playing for the national team.
Magpies boss John Carver has confirmed that he believes that the midfielder will not feature any more this season.
“Communication is not great at the minute so we are trying to get more and more (information), but I think he’ll stay there (Qatar) for a while.” he said.
“He’s there because the surgeon who did his operation on his thigh when he was at FC Twente is out there. He’ll have a bit of time there and then come back, but I would say his season is probably over.”
He has also been tipped to leave St James’ Park in the summer, with Lokomotiv Moscow a potential transfer destination given that they can meet the club’s price demands.
