Arsenal have confirmed that key defender Hector Bellerin has signed a new long-term contract with the North London side, as per their official website.
The Spanish right-back broke into Arsene Wenger’s first team last season and impressed the Emirates Stadium faithful with his turns of pace and willingness to get forward.
The 20-year-old’s performances were so consistent that he is now viewed as first choice in the full-back role ahead of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers.
Bellerin headed to North London in 2011 from the Barcelona youth academy and was initially signed as a promising winger.
However, the Spain under-21 international has been converted into a right-back by Wenger, with Bellerin starting 17 Premier League games for the outfit last season.
The official announcement does not reveal the length of the defender’s new deal, but is widely expected that the Spaniard will play a significant role in the Arsenal first team for years to come.
