Arsenal to block Liverpool’s £18m deadline day move for Spanish midfielder

Arsenal are ready to go all out to sign Liverpool target Asier Illarramendi from Real Madrid, according to reports from the Metro.

The Gunners have been monitoring the midfielder for some time, and are looking to sign him this summer.

However Liverpool are keen to pay £18million in order to bring the Spaniard to Anfield before the end of the January transfer window, with recent reports suggesting that the Reds are closing in on an agreement.

However in Spain have revealed that the Gunners are so eager to sign Illarramendi that they will do everything in their power to convince Real Madrid to sell the 24-year-old to them at the end of the season.

Illarramendi signed from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2013, but has found it difficult to nail a regular starting position with the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the squad.

This has therefore opened Illarramendi to a possibility of a move, with reports claiming that he rejected an offer from Athletic Bilbao in order to play in the Premier League.
