Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to make a surprise £15 million move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans this summer, according to The Mirror.
The Gunners are facing a defensive crisis following Per Mertesacker’s injury and currently do not have any senior centre-halves available.
As a result, the North London side are expected to bring an experienced central defender to the club, with the Emirates Stadium faithful hopeful it will be before the start of the 2016-17 campaign next month.
There has been a lot of talk in the press stating that Shkodran Mustafi could fill the void, but Evans is the latest player to be linked with Arsenal.
The former Manchester United enforcer has excelled with Tony Pulis at West Brom and is versatile enough to play at centre-half, left-back or even in midfield.
Evans starred for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016 in the summer and could be a shrewd if not glamorous addition for the Gunners.
