Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Ilkay Gundogan after speculation that the midfielder has been given a club ultimatum by Borussia Dortmund regarding his future, Mirror reports.
The 24-year-old is believed to have been told that if he refused to sign a new deal this month, the Bundesliga side will be forced to sell him in order to avoid free transfer dealings later on.
Arsene Wenger is considering a move for Gundogan in order to solve his defensive midfield shortages, but may have to go head-to-head with rivals United for his services.
However, Dortmund will be trying their best to keep him in Germany as they don’t want to see yet another star player leave the club.
They have already lost Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich while Marco Reus is also tipped to be making an exit sometime this month.
