Arsenal v QPR – Match Preview

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger

Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League defeat to Schalke when they welcome bottom of the table QPR to the Emirates on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board have come under criticism this week following back-to-back defeats firstly at Norwich last weekend, then at home in Europe on Wednesday. The defeat to Shalke meant the Gunners had suffered their first home defeat to a European team since 2003, a run stretching back to their time at Highbury.

Mark Hughes is still desperately searching for his first win of the season, after overseeing a 1-1 draw at home to Everton last time out. QPR showed a definite improvement upon recent performances, and were ultimately denied victory by an unfortunate Julio Cesear own goal.

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere could be in contention to make his first Premier League appearance in 18 months after running out the 90 minutes in a 2-1 victory over Everton at Under-21 level, coming away unscathed.

Left-back Kieran Gibbs should also be available for the Gunners after recovering from a thigh problem.

QPR are also expecting a full back to return to action from injury, in the form of Brazilian Fabio, on loan from Manchester United.

QPR will look to take heart from the fact they beat Arsenal 2-1 in the last meeting between the sides, at Loftus Road back in March.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 QPR
