Arsene Wenger will once again send scouts to watch January transfer target Lukas Podolski this evening as his need for a striker grows as reported in the Daily Mail.
The £15million rated striker has been watched on numerous occasions this season, but Wenger wants one last look at the German hitman before making a multi-million pound offer. With Marouane Chamakh off to the African Cup of Nations in January, Robin van Persie will be the sole out and out striker at the club during a hectic period where the Gunners will be competing in three major competitions.
The Cologne striker has scored an impressive 14 goals in 15 games so far this season in the Bundesliga, and is expected to line up against his former club Bayern Munich tonight in front of Arsenal scouts. The 26-year-old Polish born forward still has 18 months remaining on his contract in Germany but Cologne are willing to listen to any offers for their prized asset in January.
The need for another striker at the Emirates is clear to see as van Persie is still due his annual long term injury and there is very little back up to cover the Dutch forward. Summer signing Park Chu-Young has failed to make much of an impact in North London and Nicklas Bendtner is out on loan at Sunderland leaving a hole that could be ably filled by Podolski.
