Aston Villa ace backs McLeish’s style

Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has defended manager Alex McLeish, despite rumblings of dissatisfaction from the club’s fans.

The Scottish coach joined the side from Midlands rivals Birmingham in the summer, and has yet to win over the Villa Park faithful.

Despite this, the Bulgarian talisman has stated that he believes McLeish will never give up, and make a mark on the club in the near future.

“Our manager will get it right. We believe in him and we will keep fighting,” Petrov told The Guardian.

“Managers will always be under pressure when you don’t get results even if you play well. Ours is doing well and he’s strong and positive but unfortunately we can’t get a result.

“He’s a strong character, though. He’ll never give up. He’ll keep fighting and driving us forward. We are behind him. It’s just that we can’t get results at the moment.

“We’ve been creating chances but we just can’t keep a clean sheet. We’ve been working really hard but it has not been paying off,” he concluded.

Villa are in a disappointing 13th in the Premier League standings, and take on top flight leaders Manchester City at Villa Park on Sunday.
