Aston Villa are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur star Andros Townsend, according to reports from the Mirror.
The 23-year-old is among the names on manager Tim Sherwood’s list of potential additions ahead of the new season, but could be forced to pay a big fee.
He penned a new three-year deal at White Hart Lane last year following his performance to help England qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
Southampton offered £12million to acquire his services during the previous summer, while Queens Park Rangers tabled a £10million bid, but they both saw their offers rejected by Spurs.
Sherwood’s side will now be forced to negotiate with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy over a potential fee, which is likely to be higher than the previous amounts.
He has struggled to break into the first team at the club, featuring in only 17 league matches from a possible 38 last season, scoring two goals.
Apart from the England international, the Villans are also keeping a close eye on relegated star Tom Huddlestone, who might favour an escape route to the Premier League following Hull City’s drop into the Championship.
