Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing, but the Birmingham club have been quick to deny receiving any contact from the London outfit.
Reports in The Daily Mail and Sky Sports stipulate that Arsene Wenger has made an £18 million bid for the England international, following the Midlands club rejected a £15 million bid from Liverpool for the winger.
However, according to The Guardian, the Villa Park team have dismissed the speculation and confirmed that no official approach from the Emirates side had been received.
The former Middlesbrough player has two years remaining on his current deal, and his employers face a difficult decision over whether or not to sell the star, as he seems reluctant to renew his contract.
New manager Alex McLeish remains adamant however that Downing is not for sale and will remain at the club.
