Aston Villa set to beat Tottenham in race for £10m French midfielder

Aston Villa are set to complete a £10million deal for Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout in the coming days, according to reports from Goal.com.

Veretout has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with English giants Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool both interested in the midfielder.

However, it is the Villans who are set to land the 22-year-old after Nantes president Waldemar Kita revealed that Veretout is close to joining a great English club.

“We are basically agreed on everything,” Kita said.

“I am obliged to give in. He is 22, he has a big future and he will play for a great English club.”

Villa have received a mass influx of funds following the sale of Christian Benteke to Liverpool and Fabian Delph to Manchester City, with Benteke departing for a massive £32.5million while Delph left for £10million.

And the Midlands side wasted no time in their transfer business, securing deals for ex-Lorient attacker Jordan Ayew and former Nice defender Jordan Amavi.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Veretout played 40 games in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.
