Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood is said to have send scouts to monitor the situation of Mainz star Loris Karius as a possible replacement to Brad Guzan, Mirror reports.
The 22-year-old is now being watched by goalkeeper coach Tony Coton as the club are looking to reinforce their goalkeeping positions.
Sherwood was keen to bring in another shot-stopper during the summer window, but recently failed in his attempts to lure former Stoke City star Asmir Begovic to Villa Park.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international instead decided to join current Premier League champions Chelsea and has now been given a regular first team role following the injury to first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois.
Karius rose through the Manchester City youth ranks but was unable to push for a place in the senior squad, playing for the Mainz reserve team before making his senior appearance in 2012.
He featured 36 times in all competitions for his side last term, conceded 49 goals while keeping a total of 12 clean sheets.
