Aston Villa’s relegation was finally confirmed last weekend and the club, amid turmoil at board level, can finally begin to plan for next season in the Championship. The search for a manager is likely to already be under way and these remaining few games will be a final opportunity for the players to prove they can still make a career at the top level.
Meanwhile, Ronald Koeman’s Southampton will still hold faint hopes of snatching a Europa League place and will hope to continue their good form of late – having only lost one of their last six Premier League fixtures. A top six finish looks extremely unlikely for the Saints, whilst the poor form of Chelsea and Stoke means they look relatively comfortable in seventh place for the remainder of this campaign.
So, in a near dead rubber fixture, what can we expect?
Villa have hardly scored recently and Southampton are one of a few mid-table teams who seem to have kept their motivation. It looks like only one result is possible!
